Böwe Bell+Howell collaborated with Cesaroni
Design to develop the next generation document scanner, Ngenuity.
The industrial designers worked concurrently with the client
throughout the product development process. The design team's
attention to detail produced a premium fit and finish, and further
improved the quality of the product and user experience.
Ngenuity's unique form establishes strong brand recognition.
The design team retained the essence of the original concept's
dynamic curve by continually refining the initial design in response to mechanical changes. The
dynamic curve minimizes the overall size, and reflects the action
taking place internally. Its repetitive chamfered detail on
the sides adds visual interest to the large surface. The main
access latch is located on the side, and effortlessly pivots
open the top half for easy access to internal components.
The advanced design converts a wider range of documents into
high-quality digital images at faster speeds compared to the
competition. Ngenuity features two paper paths. An alternative
straight through path is designed for long and thick documents
that might not make the turn through the traditional rotary
path. With the option of feeding long and thick documents to
exit through the back of the scanner, users can scan everything
from fetal monitoring strips to stuffed envelopes more efficiently
and with ease.
Its high-capacity feeder tray holds 40-percent more than other
scanners in its class. The feeder tray is designed with automatic
height adjustments to accommodate different sized batches.
The control panel provides easy access to frequently used features,
and includes two user-customizable function buttons. Special
document modes auto-adjust feeding and transport settings for
very long, folded and fragile documents. Much of the scanner
functionality and software is accessible from a PC with user-friendly
operator interface.
White LED illumination combined with high-precision SharpShooter
Trilinear CCD cameras produce high-quality digital images consistently.
The LED lights, which require no warm-up time, allow users to
scan at optimal image quality as soon as the scanner is turned
on.
