AC Delco's product development team collaborated with Cesaroni Design
to create this new consumer product. Aesthetics and user interface
were driving thoughts while developing the look and feel of
this device.
The ideation process began with competitive product research.
Based on the research results, our goal was to minimize the
irregularity found in competing units. Our product design firm
developed a design approach that differentiates this device
from competitive products and establishes visual recognition.
Cesaroni Design's product design team created an elliptical
shape that integrates all design components into a cohesive
form. Our industrial design firm was influenced by automotive
styling for the silver color and blue accents that draw attention
to user interface elements.
We located the handle at the center of gravity to balance the
device when it is moved. The product designers implemented a
textured rubber handle to prevent hands from slipping while
interacting with the product.
The project team developed a unique two-stage pump mechanism.
This mechanism reduces the pumping effort by 80% compared to
conventional trolley jacks. The mechanism minimizes the work
preformed by the user with an automatic preset adjustment that
changes from fast action pumping to normal lifting.
This new consumer product has received a phenomenal response
since its introduction into the market. The product has been
featured in Popular Mechanics and Hot Rod magazines. The innovative
product design was recognized as an IDEA winner and received
a Good Design award.
