Cesaroni Design worked with Gendex Dental
Systems to redesign the existing Expert DC. The project was
carried out from initial concept sketches through prototype
design. The design solution of the new Expert DC earned an Excellence
in Design (EID) Gold from appliance DESIGN and GOOD DESIGN Award
from The Chicago Athenaeum.
The design consists of a wall-mounted, ABS injection molded
enclosure and flexible powder coated, extruded aluminum arms.
Patient comfort is increased with the open architectural forms.
The minimal design of the X-ray tubehead increases the space
between the unit and patient, allowing the product to be positioned
further away from the patient's face. Backlit translucent controls,
light colors and fresh graphics lend in emotional approachability.
The redesign Expert DC particularly addressed the desire to
maximize image resolution by minimizing distortion. The typical
industry-standard focal spot of other intraoral X-ray systems
on the market is 0.7mm. The Expert DC has an industry-leading
focal spot of 0.4mm, which provides clearer detail in DEJ, canals,
PDL and bone. The intraoral X-ray system also delivers consistent
results with shorter exposures to reduce exposure to harmful
radiation.
The intraoral X-ray system offers significant user-related improvements
with its intuitive user interfaces to increase workflow for
dental team members. Dental team members operate the system
from the main control panel, or with the QuickSet control presets
located on the X-ray tubehead. The product is compatible with
digital sensors, PSP and a wide range of film speeds to be incorporated
in a multitude of dental practices.
