In many laboratories the analysis process
is performed by individuals with limited scientific experience.
LECO collaborated with Cesaroni Design to develop an automated
device to streamline the analysis process for the client's current
laboratory instruments.
This unit has an architectural presence with clean intersecting
geometric forms. The robotic movement of the architectural forms
suggests a kinetic sculpture as the instrument works through
its analysis process. The fit and finish of the metal covers
are uniform. Vent holes are aesthetically aligned and functional.
The automated design improves alignment capabilities and maintenance
issues found on previous generations of laboratory equipment.
The design also increases throughput and walk away time. This device holds up to 50 samples with 5 carousels containing 10 samples
each. These samples are retrieved by a unique robotic arm utilizing
Windows® based software.
The design team created a removable hood to give the user easy
access to the combustion area to replace the tube. Maintenance
of this area can be performed without the user uncoupling the
machine from the instrument. The anhydrone tube, filter and
flow meter are also accessible to the user by removing the crucible
bucket. These maintenance features improve the performance of
scientific equipment.
