Project Description: Fitness & Recreation

Design Team: Cesaroni Design & Life Fitness

Life Fitness recognized that fitness clubs want a uniform look across their facilities. This drove Life Fitness to establish a new design language for their commercial fitness product lines, including commercial strength machines, a commercial treadmill, and this commercial elliptical machine.

Our new cardio machine product design and development process focused on integrating the new design language into this unit. Product branding elements unify the new commercial fitness product lines. This is achieved through similar form factors, common parts and colors. The uniform design language and commonality of the parts increased speed to market and reduced production costs.

The project team paid close attention to design details to simplify intersecting parts and create an approachable machine. Structural elements are left exposed and integrate into the plastic shrouds. The frame joining the front column to back pod smoothly connects both front and back forms. Pivot points on the handlebars and moving legs are designed as simple cylinders.

This new cardio machine product design received both EID and Good Design awards.
